T series engines

Most data copied from "Toyota Carina, Celica 1971-74 Autobook" (804).

The 2T engine is a pushrod, overhead valve engine with 4 inline cylinders.
The block is cast iron and the cylinder head is alloy.
Twincam versions (2T-G, 2T-GR, 2T-GEU, 3T-GTE, 4T-GTEU) use twin overhead cams in an alloy head.
All versions of the 2T can use unleaded petrol because all alloy heads have hardened valve seats.
Head gaskets can be shared between all versions (twincam can use gasket goop for timing cover).
Inlet manifold gaskets shared between all single cam versions.
Inlet manifold gaskets shared between all twincam versions.
Inlet manifold gaskets not shared between single cam and twincam versions.
Exhaust manifold gaskets shared between all versions.
Most versions use the same data except for timing.

Some info from Mike (alias Renegades)...
The full production of 2T twincam engines was started in October 1970.
Engines were produced to Toyota special order, with Yamaha supplying the heads initially.
Production run 2T twincam engines can be identified from the engine numbers.
All blocks to have the twin cam head had ID numbers commencing with 8.
Typically a 2T/2T-B engine number would be 0094490 while a 2T-G would be 8038332.
Many 2T-G racing engines went out without block numbers as the blocks were special castings
(extra ribbing for strength, reworked oil passageways).
Similarly the heads would not be numbered either.
