What is the most comfortable place of your Levin AE86? What’s the best intake on your Levin AE86? Flat out in your engine bay of course!
Sorry for these bad puns, but I just had to make them!
License plate
This nearly brand new kouki (facelift) AE86 from Osaka is one up with its 87 license plate in February 1988! Now the big mystery is whether it’s a 1987 car or that the 87 license plate is a coincidence. Next to the license plate, it has got a double set of fog lights: über rare OEM GT Apex fog lights in the grill and two Cibié 35 / Airport.
Also, something I noticed was a small coupe in the background right behind that pair of Adidas shoes. Is that a Nissan Sunny B110 coupe? In other words: the antagonist of the grandfather of the Levin AE86? It intrigued me so much that I decided to scale up the image using AI upscaling.
AI Image Upscaling
That’s not much better and what happened to that poor guy’s feet? That must be very painful! Also, the LEVIN grill logo is completely unreadable. I tried a couple of other commercial image upscalers, but they all returned the same results. It appears as if all these commercial image upscale websites run it through the same AWS Stable Diffusion API and try to resell it.
Then I remembered there was a free open-source image upscaler called Waifu2x. So I tried that instead:
I’m not stating it is a far better result, but if you zoom out, the Levin grill logo becomes readable. So it is definitely more accurate! Maybe I need to do a blog post about the various upscalers and make a comparison between the various ones. Let me know in the comments if that’s something I should do!
Now to get back to the mystery coupe: it’s definitely not a B110 coupe. It looks much more like a 2-door Sunny B210 sedan, but that won’t fit the long swooping bonnet. Maybe a Nissan Violet 710? Anyone who’s got any idea what it is?
