Video: Austrian actor sells Japanese car collection

In April last year Japanese Nostalgic Car blog wrote about the Austrian actor Roland Düringer selling his complete collection of Japanese cars. I kind of forgot about it afterwards (like most people do…) until I stumbled upon some videos on Youtube. ;)

The videos of Roland Düringer’s sales talks were shot after the posting by JNC blog and had the purpose to boost the auctions. I guess they certainly did: the Toyota Celica liftback sold for €16600!

Let’s enjoy some of the sales talks by Roland:

It is very difficult to understand and I hope your German is better than mine, otherwise it will be totally gibberish for you! :D

Basically what he said was that the Crown was immaculate, has the 4M 6 cylinder 2600 engine, Japanese fender mirrors, skai interior and bonkers looks. The Corolla liftback is praised for its glasshouse look and only having 53000km on the odometer!

The Crown was sold for 3800 euros and the Corolla Liftback was sold for 2300 euros. Way too low for they state they were in!

So, how about another Toyota Corolla KE25 then?

This KE25 sold for 3650. Sounds like a good price for a Toyota Corolla Coupe deluxe with only 79000km on the odometer!

Something older than this? How about the Honda S800:

Sold for a well deserved 9550 euros. I love the selling point: the foglights! :D

Something newer then? How about a 1980 Mitsubisi Sapporo:

Super rare in Austria: from what I understand this car was never sold in Austria. He had it imported (flown in to Austria) from the first owner and it still has its first paint. Sold for only 2650 euros.

Then the best car of the auction, the 1977 Toyota Celica RA28:

This car was sold by a dealer and but bought back from the buyer after 6000 kilometer! The rest of it is a bit gibberish to me, but apparently it was actually meant for the Austrian Toyota museum… The car eventually sold for 16600 euros!

A bit of a shame of the MS60, Liftback and the Sapporo, but at least the other cars sold for a good price! :)

Youtube: legend of AE86

Just saw a new video posted by one of the people I’m following on youtube called “Legend of AE86“.

Unfortunately the poster does not allow embedding of his videos, so I can only place a link to the video and show you this screenshot:
Youtube movie: legend of AE86
Youtube movie: legend of AE86

The video itself does not contain any music (a bit boring!) but it does tell you the history of Levin and Trueno models and interviews some key persons in the AE86 world (who are they?). For instance I didn’t know for instance that the TE37 was the Levin and the TE47 the Trueno model. Funny they only did that with these two models, while all others (TE27, TE71, AE86 etc.) all have the same model code. One of the people interviewed is a mechanic/driver during the 80s and did drive the AE86 a lot.

Nice to see a documentary without the well known people, like Keiichi Tsuchiya for instance, and seeing some other information about the AE86 as well. ;)

In case you haven’t found the video yet, you can find it here:

Hilarious: 1984 Toyota Corolla advertisement – go one better!

First watch this advertisement and then read my comments. ;)

At first I saw the 1975 Toyota Corolla KE30 (great in 75!) and then the 1981 Toyota Corolla KE70 (tops in 81!) I thought I struck gold and found a US advertisement for the Toyota Corolla GT-S AE86! But no: it is a South African advertisement for the new Toyota Corolla EE80! (go one better!)

Lovely 80s setting with dancers in tracksuits! Back in 1984 the moonwalk was the hottest thing so it is amazing to see that EE80 moonwalking with the dancers! :D

Apparently the idea back then was that the FWD EE80 was much better than the RWD KE70 (It’s a whole new number!) which may be true for the masses but not for us! (Sorry Siert!) It’s got more space than the KE70 but it lacks the potential of the KE70. Ah well, back in those days people were not thinking about engine and transmission swaps in throwaway cars like the Corolla… Times really have changed!

Still, these cars are fine cars for the less enthusiastic people and I even have a member on AEU86 who swapped in a 4AGE in a Sprinter liftback! But that is of course an exception. ;)

Everything keeps going right! Toyota!
Ahum… Well, the rest is history I guess. ;)

Toyota Corolla Levin AE92 bumper on Toyota Carina A6

I was always wondering about the modern bumpers featuring several Carina’s I saw in the past, just like this one posted by bippu4life:
TS-Factory TA63
The TS-Factory Toyota Carina TA63

At first I thought it was an aftermarket bumper based upon the kouki Corolla Levin AE86. But in the picture it states that it is an AE92 bumper. Well, I just came across this ad on auctions.yahoo.co.jp selling an Corolla Levin AE92 bumper for an Carina AA63:

Toyota Corolla Levin AE92 bumper

I know it must be a Levin bumper because the license plate fits on the grille itself an the Trueno bumper has its emblem over there. And the shape tells me it is a Zenki Levin bumper. It’s a pity both the Levin and Trueno AE92 were never delivered in Europe. The width of the Carina A6 is 1650mm (all models) while the Corolla E9 is 1655mm (all models). That means every E9 bumper will fit, so I’m not limited to the Levin and Trueno bumpers. :)

I don’t really like the normal Corolla E9, but I do like the bumper of the European variant of the JDM Sprinter E9:
Toyota Corolla E9 Liftback (toyota sprinter E9 in Japan)
European Toyota Corolla E9 Liftback (Toyota Sprinter E9 in Japan)

Now I need to find out what GX70 bumper is used on the rear. ;)
