Friday Video: Rotary vs Skyline by Best Motoring

Back in the early 70s Mazda and Nissan fought for the grand championships with their rotaries (RX-2 and RX-3) and their Skyline GT-Rs (KPGC10 and PGC10) and Best Motoring is reliving those fierce battles with a bit more modern machines in Hot Version 52 (Rotary vs Skyline):

Unfortunately by the time Group 5 races emerged in Japan this meant the cars used never were the actual production cars anymore. So what Best Motoring did was to line up cars that never battled with each other and they range from early 80s till early noughties.

My personal favorite is the battle between the Mazda RX7 SA22C (tuned by REOS) and the Nissan Skyline RS Turbo DR30 (tuned by Escort) and you can watch this battle in the video below: Continue reading

Friday Video: The very first Best Motoring video!

Back in December 1987 the very first issue of Best Motoring video became available. The video was a monthly magazine containing not only car news and reviews but also extensive how-to’s on subjects of mastering cornering or drifting. KaKo posted this video in four separate parts:
Best Motoring first video: Mitsubishi HSR Concept
The first video covers the Nissan MID-4 II, Toyota FXV-Ⅱ and Mitsubishi HSR concept cars. Followed by a short video (in sepia) about the Tokyo Motor Show from the 50s till 80s including the 27th motorshow that just happened days before the release of the video. And last part of the first video covers an extensive test between various cars including the new (second generation) CR-X Si and the Nissan Skyline GTS-X R31.

Sanctuary: the Initial D Fujiwara Tofu shop (Haruna)

Yes, a new idea/section/regular just emerged: sanctuaries!
Why? Well basically last night I suffered from insomnia and for whatever reason my mind wandered to the original Initial D Tofu shop which is located in Shibukawan next to Mount Haruna (the town called Akina in Initial D) and that the original tofu shop has been demolished about three years ago. This is the photo Alexi took to prove it has been demolished:
Sanctuary: Intitial D Fujiwara Tofu Shop in Haruna
So I was wondering how many fanboys actually posed (or their cars) in front of the tofu shop when visiting Shibukawan or Mount Haruna, so here is a whole gallery of cars, tofu shops and people posing in front of it!

Also in case you are wondering where to find the place, this is the location on Google Streetview: Continue reading

Down on the Street: blue Nissan Skyline R33 GTST

There are occasions where I only spot a car once and there are occasions where I spot a car multiple times… This 1993 Nissan Skyline R33 GTST is, as of this Monday, one of the latter cases:

Basically one of my colleagues told me some people were making photos of a Ferrari in the parkinglot at work, but actually there was a tuned car parked next to it that I might be interested in. So I walked outside and found this (lightning) blue Nissan Skyline R33 GTST parked behind it. Yes that is a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta parked in front of the Skyline but who gives a fuck about Ferrari F12s? Skylines interest me much more… ;)

Actually I have to admit that I did not really realize how special the Ferrari was until I looked it up… Yes I’m completely in the dark regarding modern Italian cars…

Anyway, as I found out later on looking up the license plate the Skyline only got transferred to the current owner this Monday, the day I took these pictures: Continue reading
