Redesign and change of heart!

In case you are a regular you must have a big WTF?! by now… Yes, indeed not only did I just change the look and feel of the blog, I also decided the blogging software should be changed to WordPress.

Why? Well that’s quite simple: the old software was getting too complicated (I hacked a lot into it), outdated (less nifty features as WordPress), Facebook posting (still to be enabled) and the comment spam was getting worse and due to anti spam matters real comments were declining… So I decided, even though I’m very skeptic about WordPress, to rely on a system that works.

About the redesign: it is a fantastic theme called Custom Community by Themekraft. If you didn’t recognize the logo: it was inspired/borrowed by the Nissan Ken & Mary Skyline C110 advertisement campaign:

Hope you will like the change as much as I do! ;)

BTW: if you encounter problems with old pages, please send them to me through the contact form. Also the blogroll will be extended to its original length later on.

Commerical time: Long drive Skyline GC10

I think I posted a few of these commercials sometime before, but most of the videos have been removed from Youtube in the meantime. Hopefully these won’t disappear since they are not ripped from the DVD.

Even before the famous Ken and Mary C110 commercials Nissan was marketing the Skyline to be the car for the young and sporty couples, including the G18 Skyline GC10 deluxe around 9:08. Funny how his beret changes into a hat within a few seconds…

Don’t be fooled by the first commercial: that’s a model from the previous S50 generation Skyline.

Mental note: If I ever buy a Skyline C10 I’ll definitely have to buy a beret as well!

WTF: Thoroughbred Skyline 2000GT Turbo

When I think of a high performance Skyline R30 I alway picture either the louvre grille DR30 or the tekkamen (Iron Mask) DR30, but not this thoroughbred 2000GT Turbo:

Thoroughbred in Skyline terms means it is at least having a L20 engine under its hood:

And normally a thoroughbred L20ET should have a bit more oomph than its predecessor but in this case Nissan kept the entire L20ET the same as in the C211. Perhaps they thought it meant that the shell was thoroughbred and its engine were the strong genes remaining from its predecessor?

JAF2011: Finally some celluloid photos! (part 2)

In total there were three AE86s on the paddock. Yesterday I already posted the purple Corolla AE86 with the BEAMS 3S-GE conversion, so how about this red Corolla AE86 with some deep dished SSR dori-dori rims?

His Corolla Levin AE86 started its life as a Swiss red panda Corolla GT and slowly he migrated it to a driftstyle hachi.

He actually downgraded its looks by removing the Vertex bumpers. Personally I like it much better with the stock bumpers back on again: mimics the grassroots JDM driftstyle much better!
BTW: The photo was a bit of over exposed on the left due to inserting the film.

The hachi is owned by my friend Oldskull and I still think it is amazing what he does to it! The SSR Dori-doris are just a small example how great you can make a hachi look!

To shoot this photo I had to lay down on my knees and I almost knocked over another photographer.

After a while the free runs were due and a long line of cars were anxiously waiting to make some rounds:

The lineup mainly consisted of Skylines, Silvias, Lancers, Integras and Civics…

Another eye catcher was this immaculate Cherry F-II at the Dutch Nissan club:

It featured some vintage 80s 15 or 16 inch wheels that looked a lot like the Borbet rims.

It also featured an oldskool chin spoiler with a vintage Datsun racing badge on it:

One of the best things I’ve seen at the JAF!

And also a Heartbreaker for Japan sticker:

Even though this Cherry is a FWD it was by far one of the most impressive cars on the paddock!

Stay tuned for more photos on an even more impressive Nissan in the next part!
