Remembering Japanese cars from the past
One of my favorite Minkara feeds is by Restive Horse who owns a very nice Nissan Skyline DR30 and a cute little daughter and likes to post about both of them. Some time ago he posted one about his daughter with the Tomica Skyline Super Silhouette:
If I was able to view the very same car with my son I’d like to have a picture of my Super Silhouette Son as well! ;)

I just happened to stumble accross this 1980 or 1981 Nissan Skyline advertisement:
It includes Paul Newman who was involved heavily with the New Skyline advertisements by Nissan. What puzzles me is why they put this fake Super Silhouette R30 in the picture while the Hasemi Skyline KDR30 was actually more impressive than this rendering…
It has been a while since this link entered my linkdump, but it kept popping up now and then. Basically during a Skyline meetup this Skyline owner took a couple of pictures of this lowered Tekkamen Nissan Skyline DR30:

At least, that’s what the Skyline R30’s owner must have thought.
The Skyline R30 shared its underpinnings with the Laurel C31, so that makes the C32 parked next to this R30 its younger brother.

It is always nice to see how a car progresses in time, especially if the car transforms from an ugly duckling to a swan like this Skyline R30 owned by Zeki did back in the mid nineties:

You’d probably say it is nothing special and just a bone stock RS Turbo on a set of SSR Hiro V1-R wheels.
Well, consider that the car started out as this bone stock Skyline HR30:

After six months a Skyline RS grille, a set of RS Watanabe rims and a PMCS sticker were added:

After four more months the Watanabes were swapped for a set of Work E-WIng Fin rims, a boot spoiler and a set of smoked DR30 tail lights:

He also added a Recaro seat and a pair of yellow fog lights at the same time…
Followed by a pair of white foglights, a set of Hiro V1-R rims and a RS Turbo sticker on the rear door:

The only differences with a RS Turbo are the L engine under the hood and the missing rear window wiper.
The ugly duckling became a real swan!
