I had two WTF?! moments in this Japanese Mazda Capella ad with French actor and playboy Alain Delon. One of them is the corny scene set in France. The second is the Alain Delon lunging at the girl on the rollerskates. Let me explain!
Enroute to the Wangan Warriors 2013 season kick-off I already encountered a group of sports cars (Skyline R32, Silvia S12 and a Subaru WRX) but when I came near to the meeting grounds the sports and performance cars were literally swarming from all directions!
This Nissan 200SX S13 was parked next to the entrance was remained glued to my retina for the remainder of the meeting:
So if this is his mum’s car…his car should be even messier? :P
In part 2 even more oldskool Nissans will be killed and if you watch all the way up to 8:01 also a non-Nissan: a Mazda Capella Coupé. Or could it be a RX-2?! Continue reading
This time a 1971 Japanese Mazda Capella RX2 advertisement:
Funny that the Japanese try to sell the RX2 by giving the impression that the Americans approve and love the car! I can’t read the name of the driver from his signature, but he says funny things like:
Well, that sure does look different!
At first I thought it was Pat Bedard, but both the time (Pat Bedard only started to have interest in the RX2 in 1972) and signature can’t be his…
Also puzzling: the driver tests the car and on 0:24 he starts to make a turn resulting in oversteer on 0:27. How would you explain that he is doing his test on a dragstrip and not a circuit? Personally I have never seen a dragstrip with a corner in it! ?(???;)
At first, I didn’t really notice, but this Japanese advertisement for the Mazda Capella is shot on the German Autobahn in the late 70s with a German License plate. By passing the BMW 3 series it looks like Mazda is saying they build a better autobahn stürmer than the BMW 3 series. However, this second generation Capella did not feature a Wankel engine like the Capella 616-based RX-2 did. It would really have been a slap in the face if it did have the Wankel engine: the German invention made to perfection by Japanese engineers and sold with a Japanese hardtop coupe as an autobahn stürmer. IMO a missed opportunity…
