JCS 2010 highlights (part two)

Let’s continue (and finish) the highlights of Japan Classic Sunday 2010!

First of all these two blue Corolla KE30s drew my attention:

I briefly spoke to the owner and his buddy. They surely love to keep these old Rollas alive! :)

Another Corolla, but this time PetzK’s AE86:

It finally returned to its home soil (it used to be a Dutch 3 door!) and the car looks even better than on the pictures I saw before. Too bad I didn’t have the opportunity to chat! :(

Talking about 3 door AE86s:

He won second place in the youngtimer class (two years ago he became first). Winning a price on the JCS is not a bad thing, but winning twice is a very good thing! Congrats again Ibrahim! :)

Iwan brought both his Datsun Super Six and this Datsun 280C wagon:

Not only can this 280C bring along 8 passengers (!) but it also has a small side window that can be operated through the keyhole in the back (seen in the last picture!). It was meant as a feature for Japanese people who returned shopping and wanted to load their groceries into the car without stepping off the pavement! Talk about (useless) innovation! :D

And last but not least, this Corolla Levin BG-Z AE111:

Believe it or not: this car is an original Luxembourg car! A collector from Luxembourg ordered this RHD car through a Toyota dealer directly from Japan, so this is one of the few original AE111 delivered outside Japan! Amazing!

That’s it for JCS 2010! Can’t wait for JCS 2011! (if that is ever going to happen!)

Japanese rustoseums (part 10)

I haven’t got the guts to post up more of those rotten away sportscars like last week, so this time I have a Nissan Gloria 430 wagon for you:

Someone bought this Gloria 430 as his family wagon second hand in 1990 and parked out in the back of his premisses three years later and left it there for 16 years! In these 16 years of time bamboo and other plants surrounded the car completely and the car sunk slowly into the ground.

Someone actually was crazy enough to save it and bought this Gloria simply because of its rarity!

The new owner bought the car as being a Cedric, but when he picked it up it turned out to be a Gloria instead. So even the Japanese can’t tell the Cedric and Gloria apart either! (even when a big sign on the trunk says GLORIA)

The Gloria itself is a 280D, which means it is powered by a LD28 2.8 litre diesel. The engine itself is not the most powerful engine, but it surely has a lot of torque! Too bad this car can’t really use that well with its automatic gearbox…

The car came with a set of genuine vintage rims, a lot of mud, rust and lucky enough the handbrake wasn’t stuck either. The owner towed the car home and already began cleaning it and fixing it up.

This man is a real hero: I would certainly have walked away from such a dump! I’ll keep an eye upon this project and post the outcome when it has been finished! :)
