Remembering Japanese cars from the past

Scrapyard drawings on Flickr

I came across these great drawings by reallyloud on Flickr:

Most of his drawings are done during the 90s and made available through his flickr sets. This Celica is done really fantastic:

Also most of his other drawings consist of piles of cars and it is some how a bit of a game to recognize them all!

And this drawing of a Datsun 100a really reminds me of the red Cherry my stepdad used to own in the early 80s:

You can find the whole set here:

It mostly contains Japanese tin, but you can see some British metal (rust?) in there as well.

Carina Sightings: awful Toyota Carina Coupe TA60 in Norway

I found this awful Carina Coupe on Flickr. The owner (Long Gone Silver) put some really awful 16 inch bling rims under the coupe, some vinyl flame decal, double antennas, taxi blocks stripe and the most hideous chin and boot spoiler!

Funny thing is that I didn’t know some of the TA60 Coupes actually were delivered with independent rear suspension (IRS):

And, if I’m correct, there is a Carina station van in the background. ;)

It is sad to see such a waste… But then again, this car is in itself already a parody of itself. ;)

Carina Sightings: unknown wrecked Carina TA60 sedan

Another Carina Sighting from Flickr:

Since the majority of the Carina sedans were all 2T engined I presume this is also a TA60 sedan. Since it’s got no headrests in the rear bench it is the same grade as mine: DX. Unfortunately there is no licenseplate so we can’t even guess where the car is from… A lot of guesswork here…

Anyway, the car has been wrecked: it got a good bump on the front and left fender and the right rear got a small dent as well. The interior looks like the car has been driven by the Swamp Thing himself. It probably wasn’t saved after these three pictures…

Would it have been in an accident or did a wannabe drifter loose control of the car when loosing traction (open diff!) on a muddy road?

Carina sightings: Austrian Carina GL on Flickr

I found this Carina GL TA60 on Flickr and I suspect it is from Austria. I really like the coloring by the photographer and I think it is called Fuji Colorshift (it is in an album called like that).
Nice colored Austrian Carina GL

Apparently the GL had a better trim than the DX: it features a backseat with raised headrests instead of the flat backseat my DX has…
Carina GL with more expensive back seat

Perhaps I should look for a GL backseat in Austria then! :)
