After being silent on the subject of my Carina for a while I’ve finally made some more progress: I’m assembling the Carina AA63 double headlights (after stripping and repairing them first):
This is only the right side assembly and unfortunately the left side has to wait a bit. And yes I know: it is definitely not the most beautiful glassfibre repair, but it will be hidden behind the grille anyway.
Why? Well it is waiting for the respray of some new old stock headlight surroundings: Continue reading
When I first saw this Carina TA60 sedan I thought the quad headlights were either originals (without the citylights) or taken from a Celica:

But I was wrong: they are from an Audi Quattro!
If you look close enough you can see the original sidemarkers are missing their citylights:

Now that’s creative! :)

I’m curious how this project will turn out in the end!
You can find the porject here.
BTW: this color is the exact same color as my dad’s Carina wagon used to be!
Two weeks ago a package arrived:
Package from Rinkya Japan!
It was sent through Rinkya (they get the stuff from Auctions Yahoo for you!) and took about 2 months by sea mail. It didn’t matter it took that long since I was in no hurry, but I could have gotten it through airmail as well. :)
What was in it then?
Well packaged with foam and polystyrene
Well, a lot of foam and polystyrene! With car parts Rinkya is extra careful and packages it even better than you would do it yourself! Now that is professional! I can certainly learn from this with the AEU86 shop I guess…
But what’s in there except for all that crap then?
A set of JDM Carina sidemarkers and citylights
Two JDM Carina sidemarkers and two citylights! I don’t need the citylights but they were one single auction, so got them anyway…
Test fitting:
Test fit of the sidemarker
Looks like a perfect fit!
How the double headlights look now
Can’t wait till I’ve repaired the brackets and fitted this set to the Carina! :)
(Only need to find the time to do so…)
Big thanks to Rinkya for arranging the auction just in time and shipping it so carefully!
The package with the Carina grill and headlights has finally arrived from Japan!
Opened the package and found it was very well packaged:
I found that the frames of the headlights are a bit more rusted that I thought…
I think I’ll make a template and try either to fix it (with glassfiber or welded) or to have it copied.
But in general these double headlights don’t look too bad.
I found the Carina grill being cracked on several places, but not beyond repair:
And last but not least, the full view of the JDM AA63 Carina front end!
Only thing missing now are the yellow indicators.
Just got these two parts through auctions.yahoo.co.jp:
JDM AA63 Carina double headlights
JDM AA63 Carina double headlights surround
They are already paid for and will be picked up hopefully this week. Then I have to wait for the grille auction to end as well (somewhere tomorrow) and hopefully everything can be shipped after that. :)
