Commercial time: Grand Theft 86!

Yesterday Jalopnik posted that two people deferred British advertisement for the Toyota GT86 (aka the Toyota 86 or Scion FR-S) because it contained wild driving. What? Just two people complaining can stop an advertisment being broadcasted?

Jalopnik called it Brazil like and that is somewhat true if you have watched Terry Gilliam’s movie…

…however I do think Toyota was aiming for a much more pressing world: the world of Grand Theft Auto! Continue reading

Commercial time: Kens parents get married

There had to be something before Ken and Mary, right? They must have come from somewhere and it probably wasn’t a Nissan Skyline that gave birth to them…
Ken's parents get married in a Skyline S50
The Nissan Skyline C10 was the third generation Skyline and the first car released after the Nissan and Prince Motor Company merger and the fourth Skyline model became famous for its Ken and Mary commercials. Before merger the Skyline range belonged to the Prince Motor Company and I personally consider the Skyline as a manly car. So the Prince Motor Company must have been the parents of Ken while Nissan must have been the parents of Mary.

Prince featured Ken’s parents their commercial for the second Skyline model (S50):

So now we know that Kens parents loved skiing and were god fearing christians. ;)

Commercial time: Royal Crown shadow

What image would be even better than this Toyota Crown Royal Saloon MS106 to show the awesomeness of the five spoke Techno Shadow rims?
Techno Shadow on Crown MS106 Royal Saloon
To be honest: I can’t think of anything!

Even with todays yen rate these rims would still be around 400 dollars per wheel new. Sounds like a very good investment!

Commercial time: Rotary Turbo

The Mazda Cosmo HB always has been one of my favorite eighties cars:

As a young kid I kept looking through the Mazda brochures my dad once got at the dealership when he was looking for a wagon and regretted he walked out of the showroom without asking for testdrive in the new Mazda 929, the piston version of the Mazda Cosmo HB.

Of course the Japanese version of the car was featuring a lot more than the 929 spinoff we got: Continue reading

Car Chases: Seibu Kesatsu in San Andreas

When I watched this collaborated GTA San Andreas movie I somehow wondered if Gred would have been involved. Anyway, this video shows you lots and lots JDM tin carnage without any real cars being blown to smithereens!

Of course most of the cars are Nissans, but an occasional Toyota AE86 can be spotted a few times.

Also if you are wondering what that intermezzo at 3:15 is all about: it is a commercial break for featuring this Nissan Silvia advertisement: Continue reading
