Remembering Japanese cars from the past
I was thrilled to finally find a photo of a Toyota Carina station wagon TA60. It’s the exact same model and trim level as my dad’s Carina back in the 1980s! The biggest difference is the colour: this one is bright red instead of my father’s topaz-bronze Carina.

Continue readingA few weeks ago someone requested some specific data of the Toyota Carina GT RA63 and of course I did manage to find the data. One of the interesting things I found was that I was able to find the total weight, front weight and rear weights of all Carina A60 models in my data and hence could calculate the weight distribution. So after digging, copy/pasting I made a big overview of all the JDM body types, grades and model codes with their respective weight distribution.

Yesterday this orange Carina deluxe wagon became for sale on Marktplaats and I wrote to the owner asking if I could put it on the blog since it is such an amazing treasure find!

The owner is the second owner of the car since 2006 and bought it back then with only 124.000km on the odometer and today the Carina only covered 146000km so far!
The bodywork appears to be in excellent condition and that is mainly due to the anti rust treatment the first owner applied to the car.

That doesn’t mean time stood still on this car: there is some minor surface rust on the wheel arches and around the fuelcap but apart from that the car is in great nick.
Also the interior is in excellent condition:

which is due to the first owner driving around with (sheepscloth) sheets and the second owner being very careful with the car.
The engine is the well known 2T and is mated with, probably, the same 3 speed autobox as mine:

I’m very tempted to buy this car, but it is simply too beautiful and perfect to be ruined by me… ;)
So if anyone else got 1250 euros for spare: this is an excellent opportunity to get yourselves one of the last Carina station wagons! You can find it for sale here:

Now this is a tough choice: shall I take this Carina wagon or Yamaha SRX for a spin?

Even though most sane people would say the Yamaha I would personally prefer the Carina wagon above it. ;)
Sidenotes: according to the source the round headlights were swapped for the quad square types. The rims are PG type Racingforg rims.

A small detail: the Carina sits on a set of Celica A40 rims.
This Carina TA67 wagon looks like an old delivery van. With the writing on its side it looks like what the Fujiwara Tofu Carina TA67 must have looked like:

Of course the 2T engine did not have enough power by itself, so naturally he would have swapped it for a 2T-G or 3T-GT. :D

It was found near Rausu. This one really looks bad and way beyond repair.
