Carina sightings: Carina GT-TR with twin cam turbo interior

Yesterday I spotted this amazing all original Toyota Carina GT-TR sedan on Goo-net:
Toyota Carina sedan GT-TR TA63
Toyota Carina sedan GT-TR TA63

The only modifications done to this Carina was adding set of 14 inch Watanabe rims and repairing the front airdam!

The car only traveled 82000 kilometers so far (that is 357 less than mine!) which is peanuts for a car like this!

It still has the original Twin Cam Turbo interior (GT-TR only) and the interior still looks spotless! Also note that this is one of the few GT-TRs which has no rollcage installed!

Engine surely looks like it did 82K, but no more and no less. ;)
Also note that there are no camberplates or strutbars installed. Car certainly has not been used as a circuit or drift car!

In other words: this is a very nice uncut gem! You possibly can’t find a GT-TR in a better state than this!

If you are willing to spend 580.000 yen ($6600) on this beauty with full history it is certainly worth every penny (uh, yen?)!
You can find the car here:

Japanese rustoseums (part two)

Time for some more Japanese rustoseums:
Rusty Toyota Carina TA63 GT-TR

This rusty beaten up Carina GT-TR was found here.

I posted this rusty Corolla Levin AE85 before on hachiroku.com.au. It is painted in the infamous colorcode 879 and it has got a nice pair of fender mirrors! ;)

Rusty Toyota Starlet KP61

This KP61 Starlet interested me: it is sitting in a junkyard and yet it has a set of Watanabe rims! Who would throw out a pair of wats?
Also funny to see the foliage coming out of the grille! First thought is always that the foliage must have been picked up during a ride, but in reality it is just growing from under the car!

It wasn’t planned to make this a Toyota only rustoseum posting, but next time I’ll make it up by posting only non-Toyota rustoseums!

Carina sightings: Carina TA63 with 3RZ-FE swap

Good news! The infamous Carina with 1UZ swap is now getting a 3RZ-FE swap:
Infamous Carina 1UZ is getting a 3RZ-FE swap

Toyotaloyal transplanted a 1UZ-FE in his Carina TA63 (3T-GTE was already gone when he bought it) and ran it for over a year. After, as he calls it, bragging about the reliability of the engine the engine decided to destroy its big end bearing. The 1UZ-FE either had to be repaired or… swapped for another engine:

The 3RZ-FE engine can be found in the Toyota Tacoma, 4Runner and T100. The reason for choosing the 3RZ-FE was because of its reputation with the US dragracers: the engine is very reliable, got an incredibly big displacement for an inline four and is easy to unleash a lot of power from this engine. As you can see the engine is a bit tall for the Carina, so I expect him to run the car with either a big bulge in its hood or even without the hood at all.

You can see his expectations of the power output echoing in this enormous gearbox crossmember!

The oil pan will be a custom job to have a better oil flow than stock. This to prevent the engine from doing the same as the 1UZ-FE. ?ยด???

His plans for the engine is as following:
improvements to the 150hp commercial engine planned include a decently sized turbo- head work- custom inlet with 4age quad throttle bodies- remove the balance shafts- aftermarket pistons and connecting rods- MS3 engine management, just to name a few.

I like the look of this lip: it looks better than my FOHA lip. Toyotaloyal says he is going to source an AE92 front bumper instead. I do agree with him: the AE92 front bumper looks much better than this.

I’m curious what the 3RZ-FE will bring in the future, so keep you updated on new developments on this car! ( ? ??)

Japanese rustoseums (part one)

Japanese Nostalgic Car blog found another blog full of rotting J-tin. [???]

Most of these blogs have pictures of rusted cars in both wild and urban areas! It appears like it is a national hobby in Japan to keep your old car outside your house if you have the space for it and otherwise park it in a yard (aka rustoseum) with some other rusty friends.

Just have a look at some cars featured on the blog JNC-blog found:
1967 or 1968 Nissan Cedric C130
1967 or 1968 Nissan Cedric C130

A rare Nissan Cedric C130 Mark 2 from 1967 or 1968 without a windscreen. Windscreen missing == rotten interior! Not good! ?(?`???)?

A Nissan Skyline C10 2 door hardtop coupe, in other words a KGC10 (GT-X) or a KPGC10 (GT-R). But actually there is no hardtop anymore! Hopefully another GC10 hardtop coupe is happy with its new top…

Nissan Skyline C210 1600ti
Nissan Skyline C210 1600ti

Nissan Skyline C210 1600ti: the lowest spec of the C210 Skyline. A mere L16T inline 4 with double carb setup powered this Skyline. I would still love to own this car though: it would be a lot faster than my Carina! (???)

If you ever wondered what the Skyline C210 without round taillights looks like, have a look at this picture:
Nissan Skyline C210 1600ti rear

Not too bad, isn’t it?

On the same dump there was also this super clean car:
Very clean Toyota Carina GT-TR TA63

A Carina GT-TR TA63!! (???)
I have no idea what it was doing there: I could not find a rusty spot on it. Even better: not even a spec of dust! According to the blogger the car was for sale!

Stay tuned for more pictures from Japanese rustoseums!

Carina Sightings: almost mint Carina TA63 GT-TR

It was already a long time ago that I came across this very very very very good preserved Carina TA63 Coupe shot by the Flickr user pigs.of.darkness:
Very good looking Carina Coupe TA63
Very good looking Carina Coupe TA63

It looks like it just rolled out of the factory a few days ago and the owner slapped on a set of SSR Longchamp XR4 at the rear and a set of 2 piece Watanabe RS F817 rims at the front! Then thought a lip would finish off its 80s looks!

Rear of the Carina Coupe TA63

At the rear you can spot a very very tiny dent next to the trunklid, so that actually gives away that the car is not brand new anymore.

Paint is still beautiful on this Carina TA63 Coupe

Just look at how beautiful the paint still is: it reflects the van next to it perfectly!
