To say in yesterdays rustoseum spirits we will continue today with a rusty Carina SG left in a field:
Rusty Carina SG
I found it here and the translated text mentions something about a famous catchphrase “Carina foot guy”. I searched on it and found here that it was the catchphrase of the first generation Carina GT.
Anyone more familiar with that phrase?

I found a couple of meeting pictures of the so called Showa Meeting Vol 1 (2010) which, obviously, is a meeting focussed on all automotive cars from the Showa era. Since the emperor died in 1989 the range of cars is obviously very wide, including a couple of early 80s Carinas!
Toyota Carina GT-R AA63 at Showa Meeting Vol 1
This white AA63 Carina GT-R has a mismatched front grille. The grille was taken from a late type car and the Road Runner II badge was taken from a lower spec Carina. Apart from that it looks awesome sitting that low on those wats!
This Carina GT-R looked a bit less awesome:

But nevertheless I would certainly love to have it parked with those Longchamps in front of my house! ;)
This was the group shot of the Showa Meeting crew, and guess what they chose as background vehicles?

A bunch of Carinas! \o/
Too bad I couldn’t find a picture of the yellow Carina… It looks bad ass with all its camber and rollcage! And it is the only vehicle in the lineup that is lower than that lowered Bug! :D
I spotted this great looking picture on PhilsCarBlog and recognized the car as Yokosuka’s deep blue AA63 I posted before:
Yokosuka’s Carina AA63
So I decided to have another look at his blog and found that he made quite a few updates in the past 10 months!
First of all he shot this beautiful sakura picture:

And what about getting a trim?
Yokosukas Carina AA63 haircut
Well, he got the haircut, not the Carina. ;)
Or help your fellow Carina owner with an oil change:
Carina AA63 sedan and coupe
The coupe is owned by a friend of him and they regularly do maintenance together on the Carinas!
I’m not a fan of the rims on this Carina, but as you can see it is an original Carina Surf:
Original Carina Surf
The Carina Surf was part of the original Carina lineup and seperate from the Van line-up. It did feature the live axle we know of the other vans (and non-IRS Carinas) but there was a major difference: it had coil springs instead of the leaf springs used on the van!
BTW: The two extra stripes are not original…
A few weeks ago Turbiini78 sent me a video of him drifting at the Botniaring on the 12th of june.
Even though the Carina now is running on 225/50 R17 it still likes to throw up big clouds and happily goes sideways! :)
I found this drifting Lebanese Carina sedan some time ago on Youtube:
Judging from the looks the drift is initiated by applying the handbrake. It reminds me of how my Carina with open diff currently drifts: getting it sideways by using speed and momentum and praying you can keep it sideways more than half of the corner…
And compared to an AE86 it really looks like you are drifting in slow-motion:
This one is done nicely though:
Anyway, it is nice to find a Carina located somewhere else than Japan, Australia or Europe. I didn’t even know they had them in the middle east! :)
