Carina Sightings: GT-TR at Garage Goods

I like to drool over some JDM Carinas from time to time, so when I got that urge I browse the available Carina A60s on Goo-Net. This week I found this excellent Carina GT-TR example for sale at Garage Goods:

I love that bosozoku like chin-spoiler: almost cutting up the road like a razorblade!

From the rear the car looks just as great and do notice all the available cars in the background:

Several Soarers, a Levin, a Trueno Black Limited, Skylines, Silvias, Glorias. Too many cool cars to count!

The interior of the TA63 has been modified with some gauges:

Personally I don’t like gauges and apart from the tach I think they are a bit out of place here…

Last but not least:

A set of deep dish SSR Mk IIs!

For a mere 650,000 yen (almost 8,000 US dollars) it can be yours.

Carina Sightings: Super deformed Carina TA63 drawing

On Minkara I spotted this amazing drawing of a Toyota Carina TA63:

It was drawn at the second Historic Car Jam, held in the Central Park in Tenmonkan (Kagoshima) and is a drawing given to Rough Garage. (Where did I see that name and logo in slightly different shape before… )

And this is the original:

Too bad Rough Garage doesn’t own a sedan, otherwise it would have been a perfect copy of mine as well. :P
Perhaps I should start drawing Carinas like this as well. ;)

Carina Sightings: Finnish Carina Coupe AA60

Most of the time I when I try finding other Carinas I spend a lot of time on Google Images. This week it proved once again to not be a very good too in finding Carinas: the Finnish site Minunauto (Finnish Cardomain/Minkara) is badly indexed by Google and once I did a search on the site it proved that Finland must be next to Japan the country with the most active Carina drivers/owners! I found at least 25 new Carinas!!

This one was one of the most striking Carinas: a DX coupe AA60, powered by a 4AFE!

Most people would go for the 4AGE road, but somehow the owner of this Carina didn’t do so, Perhaps it is because the early generation of the 4AFE is carbureted and easier to swap…

In contrary of the kouki JDM GT models this car features the wheels from a limited edition 280ZX during wintertime. They may look the same in the basic design, but they are different. Also note that in the picture above the rims are a bit more exotic than these. ;)

Nevertheless they look really nice in combination with the bodykit! I really wonder what kit that actually is from…

OMP steering wheel and custom tach make the interior look like a serious racing machine…

And here is the 4AFE:

Note that the distributor has been relocated (transverse 4A engines have them located at the back) and the exhaust manifold is a custom job.

This is how good a EUDM Coupe can look! ^_^

Carina Sightings: RA45 Carina GT sedan

Every generation of Carinas had its GT model, including the A40 generation. The A40 generation had four flavors of GT models: the 4 door sedan and 3 door hardtop, powered by the 1588cc 2T-G and the 1968cc 18R-G engines.

This 1980 four door Carina is the kouki GT 2000 sedan, meaning it is a RA45:

The quad headlights on the GT model really look like a predecessor of the A60 headlights.

And the taillights also look very different from the normal A40:

They are darker and the reverse lights are now placed inside the moulding.

It also got lowered a bit:

These old school Work Equipe reverse really fit the Kyusha Kai style!

Seeing how beautiful the kouki A40 actually can be I would trade my TA60 for one anytime! ;)

Carina Sightings: Digital Cluster at Ebay

Rovin sent me a message that he is selling a JDM digital cluster for the Carina A60 on Ebay:
Digital Cluster for the Carina
Digital Cluster for the Carina

Just like the other top of the line early 80s cars by Toyota, the Carina got a digital cluster as well. It all started with the 1981 Toyota Soarer, then it passed on to the 1982 Toyota Celica XX, the 1982 Toyota Carina, 1982 Toyota Crown S110 and later on in the 1983 Toyota Corolla Levin and Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86. Note that all cars (except the AE86) were released with a digital dash before the worlld was introduced with the digital dashboard from Knight Rider! ;)

Anyway, Rovin is selling this rare (optional) digital dashboard for the Carina A60, and it even includes the necessary connectors:

From experience with the AE86 digital cluster I can say that you also would need a digital fuel sender and a digital oil pressure sensor to make it work. Nevertheless I’d say it is a very fine upgrade for your Carina! If only I had the money for it…
