Carina Sightings: 30000 yen Carina GT-R bargain!

I guess this is one of these bargains you always hope for: a blue Carina GT-R AA63 for only 30000 yen! That is only 370 US dollars! And (at time of posting) the auction only has 11 hours to go before it ends!My bad: it still has 12 days to go before it ends!

This blue GT-R is currently for sale at Auctions Yahoo with an opening bid of 30000 yen! Why? Because it is covering the recycling costs! It is of course questionable if the seller actually will sell it for that price, but he specifically states “Only the highest bid is fine because it is inclusive of charge for recycling.“.

The Carina is a 1983 model, only covered 150k kilometers and was painted Alfa Romeo 147 midnight blue a few years ago. The deep dish white SSR mesh rims really complement the whole car.

Apart from having a clean 4A-GE it also got (a non functioning) aircon and powersteering under the hood and powerwindows and central locking in its doors.

Not only does it have all those luxury options: it is also features a lightened AE101 flywheel, lowered with AE92 shocks and springs at the front and GAB shocks and cut springs at the rear. It also has a FRP bonnet and trunklid to save weight!

IMO a real bargain for that price!

If you are still not convinced, here is a gallery of the Carina!

Carina Sightings: Ukrainian Carina GT

Two weeks ago Andrew sent me a picture of his Carina GT and asked me if I was interested in more pictures and info regarding it. Of course I am! ;)

His Carina GT is a 3A-U powered GT model and was delivered originally to Krivoy Rog city in the Ukraine in 1982! I didn’t even know it was possible to buy anything else than Russian cars like the VAZ range. The 3A-U powered GT model is a bit puzzling, however the car has a GT cluster (with an oil pressure meter in the middle) and it was an export model so the designations could be different from the JDM badges.

When the first owner passed away the car remained in storage and was not abused untill his children were old enough to make some small damage at the front of the car:

The car was sold and eventually Andrew bought it in 2007.

The car is in immaculate condition and almost looks as if it was new:

However there is one modification made by Andrew: he moved the fender mirrors to the doors to improve visibility. I can imagine that: the fender mirrors are not well known for the area they cover to the rear. On the other hand: they are rare fender mirrors!

Here is another detail of when the car was imported:

Apparently the Hyogo Toyota dealer made a deal with the USSR to import a batch of Toyotas. Nice to see this car survived that long! :)

Carina Sightings: Finnish Carina with quad headlights

When I first saw this Carina TA60 sedan I thought the quad headlights were either originals (without the citylights) or taken from a Celica:

But I was wrong: they are from an Audi Quattro!

If you look close enough you can see the original sidemarkers are missing their citylights:

Now that’s creative! :)

I’m curious how this project will turn out in the end!
You can find the porject here.

BTW: this color is the exact same color as my dad’s Carina wagon used to be!

Carina Sightings: fast hard shine

My heart jumped a bit when I saw this CA18DET powered Carina sedan on Youtube:

I don’t understand much from the Malay language but looking at all that shine under the bonnet it surely must be an impressive Carina! :)
Judging from the two tone paint on the bumper it could be based upon a GT-R or a GT-TR.

Any Malaysian visitors know more about this Carina? :?db
