These are the drawings I used in the Manga Car Spotting video of Shakotan Boogie part 1:
Shakotan Boogie is a manga about Hajime Yamamoto and Koji Watanabe, who own an extremely lowered Toyota Soarer 2800GT MZ11. Lowered cars like this are called shakotan (it literally means lowered car) and often referred to as Zokusha, Kaido Racers, Yankii and in western world as Bosozoku Style. Their adventures mostly revolve around dating two girls, Mariko and Yumi, who seemingly get picked up by rivaling shakotan owners or hijacked by yakuza.
The diversity of cars is enormous and each and every one of them is modified in a different way. Most popular modifications are head light and tail light swaps, bumper mounted oil coolers, wide (bolt on) fender flares, deep dished kyusha kai rims, side exhausts, takeyari (straight pipes) and wild big spoilers. This styling was mostly popular in Japan during the late 70s, throughout the 80s and also early 90s. It got replaced by the drift style once drifting started to increase in popularity. Obviously there is some overlap during the late 80s when Keiichi Tsuchiya became famous and you will see some drift action here and there.
