Down on the Street: Toyota Celica GTi AT160

If you would have asked me if I would post a Toyota Celica GTi AT160 on my blog I probably would have given you a definite no. But as five years have past since I did the first Down on the Street a lot has changed: cars have become older and some models even have gone almost extinct, just like the Celica T160 series:

Even if the car is the first front wheel drive Toyota Celica it certainly aged very beautifully.

According to the Dutch car register this originally Dutch Celica is a GTi model and is powered by a 1587cc engine, so it must be the 4A-GE powered AT160 model as we only got the 4A-GE powered Toyota Celica GT AT160 and the 3S-GE powered Toyota Celica GT/GT-four ST162. Continue reading

Down on the Street: 1978 Mitsubishi Sapporo GSR

Last Thursday when I encountered this 1978 Mitsubishi Sapporo 2000 GS/R I thought I was very lucky to find it! I never found one parked on the side of the street before! However when I checked my bag for the compact camera I usually carry around it wasn’t there. Neither was there any charge left in my smartphone so apparently my luck balanced out and I had to take pictures with my Nokia C2 dumbphone. In the end they turned out better than I expected but certainly they don’t meet my personal baseline.
Down on the Street: Mistubishi Sapporo 2000 GS/R
As you can see at the bottom of the driver door this Mitsubishi Sapporo suffers from the well known tin-worm: the very same that killed many before.

From the rear it is visible it also attacked the boot lid and it has been replaced by one in a slightly different shade of grey/silver: Continue reading

Down on the Street: Toyota MR2 SW20

I have no idea how many times I passed this Toyota MR2 SW20 in the past years. Every time I wash my car I pass it and think I should take a couple of quick snapshots but every time I ended up driving past it on my way back. That is until two weeks ago:

I had to wash the Carina for an upcoming car meet and had to wait for the soap to soak in, so I hiked back to the MR2 and took a few snapshots.

I tried to find the bodykit of this Toyota MR2 SW20, but only the front bumper/airdam seems to be a popular Duraflex Type B item: Continue reading

Down on the Street: Nissan Prairie x2

The Nissan Prairie was the first compact MPV put into production in 1981 and by the time we reached the mid 80s the European soil was covered in them. Everybody loved them as they were very spacious, well equipped and cheap to run. Nowadays almost all of them have disappeared so imagine my surprise when I passed two Nissan Prairies parked right after each other:

So I told my son (who was also in the car) I had a quick errant to run, took a U turn and drove back and took a couple of photos.

The Prairie up front was in a slightly better shape than the one behind it: Continue reading

Down on the Street: Honda Civic EK

On a Sunday (about two weeks after I bought my Honda Civic) I was driving home from the Zoo with my son when a traffic jam started to emerge. Earlier I already spotted this nice Honda Civic EK with deep dished rims among the cars on the highway so I quickly changed lanes and used the opportunity of the slow traffic to grab a camera and take a photo of it:

Shortly after the jam disappeared so it’s just this single shot I could take.
While overtaking the EK I gave the guys a thumbs up and headed home.

Down on the Street: JDM Subaru Legacy B4

What car would be rarer to drive in the Netherlands than a JDM Nissan Skyline GT-R R32?
A JDM Subaru Legacy B4!

The Subaru Legacy B4 is actually a very special type within the Legacy series, just like the WRX is for the Impreza series. There is so much improved on the car and so much that is non-standard!

It just doesn’t stop with the hoodscoop (that is missing on this car) popping out of that aluminium bonnet alone: Continue reading
