Down on the Street: the affordable Toyota Starlet EP71

Lately the Toyota Starlet EP71 is making its comeback to the streets fast! Gone are all the wellfare moms who drove the Starlet P7 for years without maintenance. Gone are all the grandpas and grandmas who drove the Starlet P7 and wrote down every liter of fuel consumed in a small booklet. Gone are all the 18 year old new driver girls who drove the Starlet P7 because it was the only affordable car.

Welcome to all enthusiasts that want to buy a (almost) classic car with go-kart experience on a shoestring budget! And I see more and more of them lately.

Yes, if you would like to buy an affordable classic this is definitely the car to buy. You can mod it without major cost involved as shock and spring upgrades, tires, aftermarket exhaust and engine upgrades are cheap for this car: Continue reading

Down on the Street: Snowy Mazda MX-5 NA

On the very same day that I encountered the snowy Subaru Impreza WRX I also made photos of a snowy Mazda MX-5 NA:

This red Mazda MX-5 originates from November 1990 and was imported 14 years ago into the Netherlands.

As you can see a lot of things have changed on this MX-5 in the past 24 years:

First if all the double exhaust pipes look brilliant on it. I have no idea if they are functional or not but they don’t look fake or something.

Then there is also a boot rack (trunk rack for the US) mounted on the boot/trunk which should increase luggage capacity for long weekend trips.

The wheels are dished Rota RB rims (Minilite/Watanabe copies) but I’m unsure about the size as I did not make a clear picture of that.

Last but not least: the snowy Mazda MX-5 NA reminded me of the Miatas from Cars in this photo. I tried to add eyes and eyelids but I simply couldn’t post it here, so you will have to do the same by squinting your eyes and see for yourself. ;)

Verdict: I really love to see this Miata every morning when I bring my son to school! It hardly ever moves but I hope the owner just suspended his/her daily commute in it during wintertime.

Down on the Street: Snowy Subaru Impreza WRX

Earlier this week it snowed in the Netherlands and since everything got covered in a thin layer of snow I’d thought it would be nice to take a short hike over the moors nearby. So I drove to the outskirts of my hometown and while finding a suitable parking space I ran into this blue 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX GDA:

The owner must be proud of it as it is in stunning condition!

It is the pre-facelifted version of the car with an headlight conversion: Continue reading

Down on the Street: Honda Prelude MK5

Last week I bumped into this last generation Honda Prelude in an underground parking garage:

Sorry for the mediocre photo quality, but camera phones, dim light and fluorescent lamps are not a good combo.
The prelude was parked there shortly before I entered the parking garage as the car was still wet from the rain above ground.

This last generation Honda Prelude is disappearing from the streets rapidly: Continue reading

Down on the Street: Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec BNR33

Yesterday was a great day for spotting Nissan Skylines: during the morning I tried to find a shortcut through my home town as I was in a hurry and BAM! I spotted this white Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec BNR33!

Later that day my wife phoned me while I was driving, so I pulled over and spoke to her on the phone. Whist doing that I heard this deep growl and before I knew what was happening a dark red Nissan Skyline R32 passed me! (followed by a lowered Honda Civic EK) In both occasions I did not have the time (or means) to take a photo…

I kind of gave up on the idea of taking a photo of the R32, but today I returned to where I spotted the white BNR33 and to my relief it was still there: Continue reading

Down on the Street: Static Monkey Honda Civic EP1

I could not resist capturing this Static Monkey Honda Civic EP1 parked in the Ikea parking garage today:

Yes, of all days I had to visit the Ikea on a Sunday when it is overcrowded. On the other hand: otherwise I wouldn’t have seen this little Honda Civic EP1 sport. It is an EP1 as, according to the Dutch car register, it features a 1.4 litre engine. So basically similar to mine, but then nine years older.

Now about the Static Monkeys part: Continue reading
