Carina Sightings: Digital Cluster at Ebay

Rovin sent me a message that he is selling a JDM digital cluster for the Carina A60 on Ebay:

Just like the other top of the line early 80s cars by Toyota, the Carina got a digital cluster as well. It all started with the 1981 Toyota Soarer, then it passed on to the 1982 Toyota Celica XX, the 1982 Toyota Carina, 1982 Toyota Crown S110 and later on in the 1983 Toyota Corolla Levin and Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86. Note that all cars (except the AE86) were released with a digital dash before the worlld was introduced with the digital dashboard from Knight Rider! ;)

Anyway, Rovin is selling this rare (optional) digital dashboard for the Carina A60, and it even includes the necessary connectors:

From experience with the AE86 digital cluster I can say that you also would need a digital fuel sender and a digital oil pressure sensor to make it work. Nevertheless I’d say it is a very fine upgrade for your Carina! If only I had the money for it…

Carina Sightings: Bad ass Carina GT-Rs!

I found a couple of meeting pictures of the so called Showa Meeting Vol 1 (2010) which, obviously, is a meeting focussed on all automotive cars from the Showa era. Since the emperor died in 1989 the range of cars is obviously very wide, including a couple of early 80s Carinas!

This white AA63 Carina GT-R has a mismatched front grille. The grille was taken from a late type car and the Road Runner II badge was taken from a lower spec Carina. Apart from that it looks awesome sitting that low on those wats!

This Carina GT-R looked a bit less awesome:

But nevertheless I would certainly love to have it parked with those Longchamps in front of my house! ;)

This was the group shot of the Showa Meeting crew, and guess what they chose as background vehicles?

A bunch of Carinas! \o/
Too bad I couldn’t find a picture of the yellow Carina… It looks bad ass with all its camber and rollcage! And it is the only vehicle in the lineup that is lower than that lowered Bug! :D

Carina Sightings: Yokosuka’s deep blue Carina AA63 (part 2)

I spotted this great looking picture on PhilsCarBlog and recognized the car as Yokosuka’s deep blue AA63 I posted before:

So I decided to have another look at his blog and found that he made quite a few updates in the past 10 months!

First of all he shot this beautiful sakura picture:

And what about getting a trim?

Well, he got the haircut, not the Carina. ;)

Or help your fellow Carina owner with an oil change:

The coupe is owned by a friend of him and they regularly do maintenance together on the Carinas!

Carina Sightings: Carina Surf

I’m not a fan of the rims on this Carina, but as you can see it is an original Carina Surf:

The Carina Surf was part of the original Carina lineup and seperate from the Van line-up. It did feature the live axle we know of the other vans (and non-IRS Carinas) but there was a major difference: it had coil springs instead of the leaf springs used on the van!
BTW: The two extra stripes are not original…
