Carina Sightings: pink shakotan Carina AA63

For my other blog Bosozoku Style I regularly visit various bosozoku style related sites. On AllJapanExpress I came across this pink shakotan Carina AA63:

Nicely lowered, overfenders and SSR Mk I rims at the rear. Just a few mods away from becoming a kaido racer! :)

I’m not sure what is worse on this Carina, the color or the bodywork:

Somehow I’m relieved this car did not have huge spoilers, oil coolers and a bamboo spears exhaust, but on the other hand it would have been fun to see such a thing. ;)

Carina Sightings: Carina Fujiwara Tofu special

This Carina Sighting is actually half a family album treasure: it is exactly how Bunta Fujiwara (or Shuichi Shigeno) would have made the Fujirara Tofu special if it were a four door car!

It is all there: the Ciebie yellow foglights, gunmetal grey RS Watanabe rims and a panda paintscheme! (was standard on the zenki AA63)

Carina Sightings: drifting in the nineties

A Carina AA63 drifting on Ebisu Circuit West Course followed by two zenki Levin AE86s, I couldn’t have thought of a better lineup myself!

The picture was taken in the mid nineties when drifting was taking a huge ramp-up and Initial D just skyrocketed in sales. The AE86 was suddenly a very popular car and the Carina was a very undervalued car. Lucky enough someone got the sanity to buy this AA63 and drift the hell out of it!

Small detail: the last AE86 was powered by a 7A-GZE. Pretty radical mod back in those days! ;)

Carina Sightings: Shakotan Carina RA45

I already posted this video in the Bosozoku Style Meeting Monday. The video contains a groundscrapingly low Carina RA45 on deep dished steelies at an Odaiba meeting earlier this month. The Carina clearly has some challenge with the conquering the pavement:

Carina Sightings: Impulse AA63 Carina coupe

From the front this Carina coupe is almost the spitting image of last weeks tekamens rival but you can see after the windhield it is clearly a coupe and not a sedan:

This Carina was tuned by Impulse (also known for their excellent AE86s) and the bigport 4AGE engine was swapped for a later type 20 valve blacktop. Also the deep dish gold mesh rims suit the coupe well.

As you can see they rerouted the waterlines, heatwrapped spaghetti exhaust headers and direct spark ignition:
