Japanese Rustoseums: Toyota Celica 2000GT RA25

A few days ago I asked Daniel O’Grady a similar question: why do the Japanese cars in Japan rust from the top down while they rust from the bottom up on the European soil?

It is funny because I can explain the European bottom up rust: we simply put salt on our roads during wintertime to fight ice and snow. However why the cars in Japan tend to rust from the top is a mystery to me…

Anyway, this beautifully crusty brown (photographed in black and white) Toyota Celica 2000GT RA25 is a good example of the top down rust:

Anyone got the answer to my question?

Down on the Street: Honda CRX mk2 widebody

A few years ago I stumbled upon a Honda CRX mk2 (EG2/4/6) on about every street corner, but stumbling upon one nowadays is actually quite rare. So imagine how happy I was stumbling upon this one:

A Honda CRX mk2 with massively widened body work and deep dished Gotti rims!

Attached to the hatch there is the ubiquitous CRX spoiler you see on everyone of them but with the widened bodywork it doesn’t hurt at all: Continue reading

Brochures: French/Spanish and JDM Mitsubishi Galant Eterna

After one and a half years I finally solved a puzzle regarding a JDM Mitsubishi Galant Eterna on French license plates in the Spanish Pyrenees! Today I found a couple more pieces of this puzzle:
Brochures Mitsubishi Galant Eterna
Not the same Galant Eterna but a white 2000GSR GT Turbo model also on French plates in the pit lane of, most probably, the Le Mans circuit in France including a Japanese celebrity called Ken Takakura (高倉健) born as Goichi Oda.

Then the same guy with a dog stand in front of a big ship with the same car with Japanese license plates: Continue reading

Video: The very first Best Motoring Hot Version

Last week I discovered Ka Ko (via Rocketpencil) who posts Best Motoring videos on an almost daily basis! :)
One of the gems he posted last week is the very first edition of Best Motoring Hot Version:
Video Best Motoring Hot Version first volume
As you can see there is a thrilling battle in this episode: the infamous Keiichi Tsuchiya battles with an (almost stock) Toyota Corolla Levin AE86 the (back then) brand new Toyota Corolla Levin GT Apex AE101 featuring the new 20 valve Silvertop 4AGE. The battle is very very close even though the AE101 has a lot more power under the bonnet!

What else can you expect from Best Motoring Hot Version Volume 1?
– Toyota Levin GT Apex AE101 vs Toyota Trueno GT-Z AE101 vs Honda Civic EF
– Toyota Levin GT Apex AE101 (superstrut) vs Toyota Levin GT Apex AE101 (non-superstrut)
– Toyota Levin GT Apex AE101 (superstrut) vs Toyota Levin AE86
– RX7 Drift vs Grip
– Group A Nissan Skyline GT-R cup with Keiichi Tsuchiya drifting his Taisan GT-R R32 on a wet Fuji Speedway!
