Down on the Street: Static Monkey Honda Civic EP1

I could not resist capturing this Static Monkey Honda Civic EP1 parked in the Ikea parking garage today:

Yes, of all days I had to visit the Ikea on a Sunday when it is overcrowded. On the other hand: otherwise I wouldn’t have seen this little Honda Civic EP1 sport. It is an EP1 as, according to the Dutch car register, it features a 1.4 litre engine. So basically similar to mine, but then nine years older.

Ebay treasures: 1969 Mazda Luce 1500SS

The first generation Mazda Luce was sold in Europe as the Mazda 1500 and Mazda 1800. As Mazda was using its performance image, thanks to successful rotary engine racing, to sell cars naturally the Mazda Luce 1500SS (Super Sport) performance model was also sold. The treasure today is such a model, hence the SS badge on the grille:

The Mazda Luce 1500SS had a twin carburettor setup added to the existing 1490cc Mazda UB engine which increased the power from 78PS to 86PS. Not a lot, but enough to make the car more responsive.

Down on the Street: Toyota Celica GTi AT160

If you would have asked me if I would post a Toyota Celica GTi AT160 on my blog I probably would have given you a definite no. But as five years have past since I did the first Down on the Street a lot has changed: cars have become older and some models even have gone almost extinct, just like the Celica T160 series:

Even if the car is the first front wheel drive Toyota Celica it certainly aged very beautifully.

According to the Dutch car register this originally Dutch Celica is a GTi model and is powered by a 1587cc engine, so it must be the 4A-GE powered AT160 model as we only got the 4A-GE powered Toyota Celica GT AT160 and the 3S-GE powered Toyota Celica GT/GT-four ST162. Continue reading
