One of the people from AEU86 met Bruce Morris earlier and convinced us to hop over to the pitlane (yes it was accessible!) and meet him. Actually I met his car:
A Nissan Skyline GTS-t R33 that has been tuned by sourcing (almost) all parts through ebay! Now that’s a totally new achievement! Ebay is, of course, a bit bigger in the UK than on the continental mainland but we surely have equivalents. However sourcing parts for about anything through Ebay is a whole different thing!
Bruce surely makes good use of the car:
He currently competes in the Super-Pro Street class in the Dutch Time Attack and holds the 4th place after two races.
Of course Pedo Bear approves his car!
Now this is only one of the many many details on his cars. A lot of memes pop up here and there and he certainly likes to shout out various messages to fellow drivers. ;)
Now I may be ignorant but I was pondering on these roof claws for a while and still did not figure out what the added benefit would be.
Many of the winglets and the diffuser are home made using a sheet of aluminium. Now that’s racing on a tight budget!
Also when I was about to take this picture something flew through my line of vision. Some bloke standing on top floor above the pitlane dropped his iPhone 5 and it just fell flat on the ground between me and the R33.
It looked shattered on the backside of the phone but the front still seemed to be functional. Some kid in the pitlane picked it up and asked the bloke if he wanted it back. The reply was a bit stupid: just throw it up here he shouted. Of course the bloke was not able to catch his phone: he even grabbed thrice but he still lost from earths gravity!
For the second time the phone dropped in front of me and the kid once more picked it up, shouted it now has been shattered beyond repairs and while trying to throw a bit higher this time he fling-ed it over the pitlane into the paddock. I’ll never forget the sound of a pitlane full of laughter…
Anyway, here is the last picture:
At the front you can see his handiwork is actually quite impressive!
So perhaps if I could ever take on such a project I would repeat it the same way: buy everything online and make sure you a better job than all those others with bigger budgets!
The ‘claws’ are airtab vortex generators Art.. they activate the boundary air layer @ the rear window transition so it attaches better.
Thanks for clearing that up! Of course I could have expected only you to answer my question. ;)
